As expected, the Hawks waived center Nene on Thursday, hours after he was acquired from the Rockets as part of a four-team trade. The trade was made official late Wednesday.

The Hawks acquired Rockets center Clint Capela and Nene in the deal that sent guard/forward Evan Turner and a conditional 2020 first-round pick (from the Nets) to the Timberwolves and a 2024 second-round pick (from the Warriors) to the Rockets.

Nene has not played this season because of a chronic adductor strain.

The move opens a roster spot for the Hawks. They will have a second open roster spot when the trade for center Dewayne Dedmon is completed later Thursday. The Hawks have agreed to a deal that sends forward Jabari Parker and center Alex Len to the Kings.

The NBA trade deadline is 3 p.m. Thursday.
