The Hawks have kept a close eye on Dimitrios Agravanis and Marcus Eriksson, their two second-round draft picks from 2015.
Both recently completed seasons in Europe and remain under contract with their current teams. Agravanis helped Olympiacos to the Greek Basketball League title recently and Eriksson played for FC Barcelona Lassa of Spain’s ACB League. According to Hawks general manager Wes Wilcox, there is no timetable on when either player could come to Atlanta.
“We are going to explore opportunities to get to know them better,” Wilcox told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We have great respect for both Barcelona and Olympiacos as programs. They are under contract. We respect those organizations. Right now, they control the players which we understand and appreciate. Really, we are just building the relationship. There is no expectation in terms of timing, for either player, as far as when they may be able to spend some time in Atlanta, whether that be in the summer or potentially down the road.”
Agravanis, who was taken with the No. 59 overall pick last year, is a 6-foot-10, 235-pound power forward. He averaged 4.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 13.0 minutes in 48 Greek and Euroleague games for Olympiacos. The team defended its Greek League title this season.
“Dimitrios just played a very important role for his Olympiacos team that ended up winning the Greek Championship,” Wilcox said. “We stay close to him. We just spoke to his coaches. We just watched his games. He has done a nice job and really finished the year strong.”
Eriksson, who was taken with the No. 50 overall pick, is a 6-7, 192-pound shooting guard. He was returning from a knee injury and averaged 3.1 points, 1.0 rebounds, 0.3 assists and 9.1 minutes in 27 combined ACB and Euroleague games last season.
“Marcus, we followed closely as well,” Wilcox said. “He didn’t get an opportunity quite as much with Barcelona. We’ve been in contact with his representatives as well.”
