What they said after the Hawks’ 94-88 loss to the Grizzlies Sunday night:
Mike Budenholzer
Opening statement: "Give Memphis a lot of credit for how well they played tonight. They are a very good defensive team. They found a way to get a little separation at the end of game and I don't think we executed as well as we need to, but I think their defense and their activity is a big part of that. A lot of credit to Memphis. It was a good game. They did a great job."
On Al Hoford and Paul Millsap combining for 10 points: "Our group has found a way. On different nights, it's different people. Some nights our bigs have big nights. Other nights, our wings or point guards. I think our group really competes hard on the defensive end and gives us a chance. We weren't our best tonight. I think Memphis deserves a lot of credit for us not being at our best. I think every night it's someone difference for us."
On putting Jeff Teague back in the game after ankle injury: "Bascially, they said he was OK. I haven't really checked. He moved pretty good the last two, three minutes. I'm sure we'll ice it up and see how he is feeling. Jeff and the group gave me the word that he was good to go."
On late turnovers: "It was good defense. It's like we always talk about, our execution probably has to be better. We've got to cut harder. We've got to screen harder. All those things. It was good defense for sure.
Al Horford
On Grizzlies defense and Hawks execution: "Give them credit. They are a very good defensive team. This was a battle. We played good as well. They made more plays down the stretch."
On poor shooting early: "We kept telling everybody to keep shooting the ball. I missed a lot of shots that I normally make. Open ones. Good shots. That happens sometimes. It's frustrating. I definitely take some of the blame for the loss."
On he and Millsap combining for 10 points: "I think if you look at our shots, I don't think we've had a game this season where we both can't hit anything. We got a lot of good looks. Credit their defense. There were some shots when they were right there and they forced us. But we also missed some shots that we normally make. That is just the way that it goes sometimes."
On learning from late execution mistakes: "Yes. A miscommunication there. I thought Jeff (Teague) and I were going to play pick-and-roll and he thought that (Mike) Conley was pressuring him so he went back door. Those are things that are unfortunate because it was in a key part of the game. That happens. We have to learn from that and move on."
Kyle Korver
On his late turnover: "I think it was probably the right call. Those are always tough handoff plays and I messed it up."
On late execution issues: "It was a well fought game. Neither team shot the ball that well. It was kind of a slugfest game. We need to execute better at the end of the game if you want to win. They made the plays they needed to. We didn't quite get it done tonight."
On Horford and Millsap combining for 10 points: "They are good. They are big guys. They probably had an off-shooting night too. Those nights happen. You wish it wouldn't. We miss some shots that we usually make. That happens. But they are a good defensive team and they put a lot of pressure on you."
Paul Millsap
On he and Horford combining for 10 points: "Give them credit. They play good defense. They beat the crap out of us. It's just what it was, a tough physical game and they won."
On Grizzlies defense: "We had some open looks. I had an open shot that went over the rim. Al had open shots early. We just missed them. They force you to play physical so that could have played a part in it."
On execution down stretch: "Just the execution down the stretch. We have to get better than that. But like you said, me and Al combined for 10 points and we still had a chance to win the game down the stretch, it's a testament to our team. Got to look at the positives out of this."
