Hawks assign Jenkins, Payne to D-League

The Hawks assigned guard John Jenkins and forward/center Adreian Payne to the NBA Development League. Both players were assigned on Monday and entered the flexible assignment rule. Neither player was assigned to the Hawks’ affiliate Fort Wayne.

Jenkins will play for Idaho. He has played in five games for Fort Wayne in one previous assignment this season. Jenkins averaged 19.4 points and 3.8 rebounds in 23.8 minutes.

Idaho, the affiliate of the Jazz, will play six games from Friday to Jan. 11 before the break for the D-League Showcase. Idado hosts Bakersfield Friday.

Payne will return to Austin, where he did a stint earlier this season. In all, Payne has played 11 games, including six starts, with Austin and Fort Wayne in three D-League stints. He has averaged 13.4 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 28.4 minutes.

Austin, the affiliate of the Spurs, also play six games from Friday to Jan. 11. Austin hosts Texas on Friday.

Both Idaho and Austin play similar systems as the Hawks.
