DeAndre Bembry is getting closer to a return from a left groin strain as the guard/forward was one of three players the Hawks assigned to Erie (Pa.), the team’s G League affiliate, on Thursday. The Hawks recalled Bembry while on a G League assignment when the team was on a western road trip earlier this month due to the injury so that he could rehab in Atlanta.

The Hawks also sent forward Tyler Cavanaugh and guard Isaiah Taylor to Erie and recalled Josh Magette.

Bembry has played 18 games with the Hawks and averaged 4.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 17.3 minutes. He has played three games with the BayHawks and averaged 12.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.7 steals in 30.7 minutes. Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer last week described Bembry’s injury as nagging.

Cavanaugh has played in 30 games for the Hawks and averaged 5.0 points and 3.3 rebounds in 13.8 minutes.

Taylor has played in 34 games for the Hawks and averaged 4.6 points, 2.2 assists and 1.4 rebounds in 14.8 minutes. He has been out of the regular rotation of late after playing backup point guard.

Magette has played eight games for the Hawks and averaged 1.6 points and 2.1 rebounds in 8.0 minutes. He has started 24 games for the BayHawks and averaged 15.5 points, 10.0 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals in 35.5 minutes. Magette is on a two-way contract.

The BayHawks have games versus Canton on Friday and at Delaware on Saturday.
