DeMarcus Cousins has been suspended for one game without pay for the elbow he threw at Al Horford during Wednesday’s game, the NBA announced Thursday.

Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Kiki VanDeWeghe acknowledged that the forearm of the Kings forward connected with the head of the Hawks center after a review of the play. The incident occurred with two minutes remaining in the first quarter of the Hawks’ 103-97 win over the Kings Wednesday. Cousins will miss tonight’s game at the Heat.

No foul was called on the play.

Horford confirmed to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution following the game that the blow connected to his head. When asked if the official saw the play, Horford said “He saw it. The official saw it. He was right there. He saw it. I told him ‘Did you see that?’ He tried to brush it off like it wasn’t a big deal.”

Horford admitted to being fired up after the incident. On the Kings’ ensuing possession, he blocked a shot by Cousins’ at the rim and raced down court for a transition dunk.

Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said after the game that he did not receive any explanation by game officials of the non-call during the contest.
