DeMarre Carroll will start Game 5 against the Wizards despite a hip injury that left him with a pronounced limp following Game 4.

When asked about the condition of his hip following Wednesday’s shootaround, Carroll said “What hip? It will be good.”

Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer also said Carroll will be in the starting lineup following the morning workout.

Carroll was injured in the final seconds of Game 4 on Monday when a screen set by the Wizards’ Nene caused him to fall to the ground as Paul Pierce attempted a potential game-tying 3-pointer. Nene raised his elbow setting the screen that caught Carroll near the head and neck.

A league review determined a non-call was correct on the play, citing Nene gave Carroll enough time and space to avoid contact.

Carroll was asked about the league’s determination.

“What play?” Carroll asked. He then added, “If they didn’t think it was a foul, it wasn’t a foul. It just lets our bigs know what type of picks we can set going forth. We need to be physical, just like they were physical and set the same type of picks they set.”
