On Friday, Angel McCoughtry recorded the first triple-double of her long basketball career. Three days later, the league rewarded her for her recent efforts.
McCoughtry was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week on Monday for the period that ended on July 10. It was the second time McCoughtry has received the award this season and the 15th time over her eight-year career.
“I couldn’t achieve what I did this week without the help of tremendous teammates and coaches who support me day in and day out,” McCoughtry said. “Credit goes to them.”
The veteran helped the Dream pick up three wins last week, including an overtime victory against Dallas on July 8 in which she recorded the triple-double. She had 27 points with 10 rebounds and 10 assists in the 95-90 win.
For the week, McCoughtry finished first in scoring (23.7 points per game), fourth in rebounding (7.3 rebounds per game) and second in assists (4.7 assists per game).
She is now third among the WNBA’s scoring leaders by averaging 20.2 points through 20 games. She’s also averaging 6.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists in that span.
