According to the agent for Pero Antic, the European power forward/center has agreed to a two-year contract with the Hawks. Misko Raznatovic stated the news Wednesday on Twitter.
The Hawks have not announced the signing as there likely are details that must be finalized. According to Raznatovic, the second year of the deal is an option.
Antic, 6-foot-11, 260 pounds, played in the Greek League the past two seasons. He helped Olympiacos to consecutive Euroleague championships.
A native of present-day Macedonia, Antic has played professionally since 1999 in his home country, Greece, Serbia, Bulgaria and Russia.
Antic, who turns 31 on Monday, served as captain of the Macedonian national team that reached the semifinals of EuroBasket 2011.
In the Euroleague, Antic played in 31 games (four starts) and averaged 6.0 points and 3.5 rebounds in 18 minutes.
If Antic signs, it most likely means that unrestricted free agent Ivan Johnson will not return. The Hawks have shown interest in bringing Johnson back. However, they have made several moves this offseason to bolster their frontcourt.
Al Horford, Paul Millsap, Elton Brand and Antic would have guaranteed contracts. The team also has second-year forward Mike Scott on a non-guaranteed contract and yet-to-be-signed draftees Lucas Nogueira and Mike Muscala.
