Brad Ziegler has induced 85 double-play grounders since the start of the 2008 season, the most among relievers. … LHP Joe Thatcher pitched a scoreless eighth, extending his streak against the Dodgers without allowing an earned run to 36 innings and 21 2-3 innings. The only reliever in history with a longer streak against one team without giving up an earned run was Troy Percival, who had 39 in a row against Minnesota spanning 40 innings.

Dodgers

Forget about RHP Chad Billingsley rejoining the roster before the end of the season. He has a torn flexor tendon in his right elbow, which will require surgery Tuesday. Billingsley hasn’t pitched in a major league game since April 15, 2013, nine days before he underwent Tommy John surgery. … The Dodgers were well-represented at the memorial service for Bob Welch in Scottsdale, Ariz. Among the mourners were Tommy Lasorda, former teammates Steve Yeager, Dusty Baker, Dave Stewart, Rick Honeycutt and Ken Howell, along with longtime visiting clubhouse manager Jerry Turner. Also on hand was ex-Oakland A’s teammate and current Dodgers hitting coach Mark McGwire. … The team signed their first-round draft pick, RHP Grant Holmes, the 22nd overall selection out of Conway High School in South Carolina. He got a $2.5 million signing bonus

Giants

The Giants and free agent Cuban OF Daniel Carbonell agreed to a $1.4 million, four-year contract, giving the team an experienced center fielder who can play all three outfield positions. He receives a $1 million signing bonus and salaries of $100,000 annually in the minor leagues. If he is promoted to the majors, his salaries would be $500,000 this year, $525,000 next season, $600,000 in 2016 and $650,000 for 2017. … RHP Tim Lincecum turned 30 last week.

Padres

RHP Nick Vincent was placed on the 15-day DL, retroactive to June 12, because of right shoulder fatigue. … The Padres promoted outfield prospect Hunter Renfroe from Class A Lake Elsinore to Double-A San Antonio. According to MLB.com, the 2013 first-round pick (13th overall) hit .295 with a .370 on-base percentage, .565 slugging percentage and .935 OPS in 69 games for Lake Elsinore. He also had three triples, 21 doubles, 16 home runs, 52 RBI and 46 runs.

Rockies

Struggling RHP Juan Nicasio was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs and OF-1B Kyle Parker was promoted from the Sky Sox. Parker, selected in the first round of the 2010 draft, made his big league debut last week in the eighth inning as a pinch-hitter and struck out. … After the Kings posed with the Dodgers for a group photo and threw out ceremonial first pitches, defenseman Willie Mitchell carried the Stanley Cup over to the Rockies’ dugout and posed with Canadian-born Rockies 1B Justin Morneau. … RHP Nick Masset began serving the three-game suspension he received from Major League Baseball for throwing at Atlanta catcher Evan Gattis recently. Masset also was fined an undisclosed amount.
