Former Braves right fielder Jason Heyward expects to be back in the Cubs' lineup in the middle of the week after avoiding a serious injury while crashing into an outfield wall last Friday in San Francisco.

Heyward  suffered only a bruise near his right rib and hip after making a spectacular diving catch in the second inning.

Heyward sprinted back to catch Denard Span's drive but his momentum carried him head-first into the bottom part of the wall.

Heyward is hitting .225 with just one homer and 14 RBIs.

The Braves traded Heyward to the Cardinals in 2014 and acquired pitchers Shelby Miller and Tyrell Jenkins.

Melvin Upton Jr., Padres outfielder: The player who hit .184 and .208 in two seasons for the Braves is standing out in San Diego. He had a walk-off homer Friday and three hits Sunday. Upton is hitting. 266 with six homers and 19 RBIs. The Braves traded Upton and Craig Kimbrel to the Padres and acquired pitcher Matt Wisler, outfielder Cameron Maybin, a minor leaguer and a draft pick.

Justin Upton, Tigers outfielder: Upton is making $22 million this season but hitting just .223 with only two homers and 10 RBIs. That projects to an expensive eight-homer, 38-RBI season. The Braves traded Upton to the Padres and picked up outfieldler Mallex Smith, infielders Jace Peterson and Dustin Peterson, pitcher Max Fried and international bonus compensation.

Alex Wood, Dodgers pitcher: The lefty fanned 13 in six innings Saturday night (with only one walk) but did not get a decision. He is 1-3 with a 4.03 ERA this season but has a 1.96 ERA in his last three outings. The Braves traded Wood and four others to L.A. and received infielder/outfielder Hector Olivera, pitchers Paco Rodriguez and Zach Bird and a draft pick.

Christian Bethancourt, Padres catcher: He stroked a two-run homer as a pinch hitter Friday night and is hitting .250 with four homers and nine RBIs. Bethancourt went 1-for-7 Sunday but San Diego has been so happy to have his bat that the team has considered playing him in right field occasionally in the future.  The Braves acquired traded Bethancourt to San Diego.

Andrelton Simmons, Angels shortstop: He's had a miserable start in L.A., with a .210 batting average and a serious thumb injury that landed him on the DL for as long as two months. The Braves acquired shortstop Erick Aybar and pitching prospects Sean Newcomb and Chris Ellis when they traded Simmons.

Craig Kimbrel, Red Sox closer: Kimbrel earned his 12th save (in 13 chances) Sunday and has held opponents scoreless over his last 10 outings. His ERA is 2.37 and he's fanned 31 in 19 innings. The Braves traded Kimbrel and Melvin Upton to the Padres and acquired pitcher Matt Wisler, outfielder Cameron Maybin, a minor leaguer and a draft pick.

Cameron Maybin, Tigers outfielder: He had three RBIs and a great catch in the outfield Sunday and was hitting .600 with five RBIs and five runs scored in six games since coming off the disabled list (due to a fractured left wrist). The Braves traded Maybin to Detroit and received left-handed pitchers Ian Kroll and Gabe Speier.

Evan Gattis, Astros designated hitter: He's homered in three of his last six games and bumped his average up to .244. Gattis also suited up at catcher for the first time since 2014.  The Braves acquired pitchers Mike Foltynewicz and Andrew Thurman and third baseman Rio Ruiz when they traded Gattis to Houston in 2015.

Shelby Miller, Diamondbacks pitcher: He beat the Braves on May 7 but is winless otherwise (1-5 in nine starts). Miller has a 6.64 ERA and has given up 48 hits and 25 walks in 40 2/3 innings. The Braves sent Miller to Arizona and acquired outfielder Ender Inciarte, pitcher Aaron Blair and infielder Dansby Swanson.

Brian McCann, Yankees catcher: He's 32 now and still the Yankees' every-day catcher. McCann is hitting .258 with six homers and 18 RBIs. McCann left the Braves as a free agent.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Tigers catcher: 'Salty' is hitting just .205 but does have seven homers and 19 RBIs.  The Braves traded Saltalamacchia, shortstop Elvis Andrus and pitchers Neftali Feliz, Matt Harrison and Beau Jones to the Rangers in 2007 for first baseman Mark Teixeira and left-handed reliever Ron Mahay.

Mark Teixeira, Yankees first baseman: A long slump has left the former Georgia Tech star with a .193 average. He has three homers and 12 RBIs. Teixeira left the Braves as a free agent in 2008.

Martin Prado, Marlins third baseman: The popular ex-Brave is hitting .353 with 13 RBIs. The Braves traded Prado and three others to the Diamondbacks for outfielder Justin Upton and third baseman Chris Johnson after the 2012 season.

Chris Johnson, Marlins third baseman: He's mostly playing first base and pinch-hitting for Miami and is hitting .245. Johnson has just one homer and three RBIs. The Braves traded him to Cleveland and picked up veteran outfielders Nick Swisher, Michael Bourn and cash.

Nick Swisher, Yankees minor-league first baseman: The veteran is playing for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders and is hitting .252 with four homers and 13 RBIs. The Braves released Swisher at the end of spring training.
