How the winning run scored: With one out in the bottom of the fourth inning, Jonathan Schoop's double to left drove home Eric Thames with the game's first run, giving Norfolk a lead over Gwinnett on Tuesday night.
At the plate: Matt Pagnozzi was 2-for-3 for Gwinnett (49-69), and no teammate had multiple hits. All five of the G-Braves' hits were singles. Xavier Avery of Norfolk (62-56), a Cedar Grove High graduate, was 3-for-3 and stole a base twice. Thames was 2-for-3, and Schoop's game-winning double was the only extra-base hit of the night.
On the mound: G-Braves starter David Hale (6-6) pitched six innings and gave up two runs on five hits. Hale struck out six and walked one.
Up next for Gwinnett: The teams continue their series at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday in Norfolk. Gwinnett right-hander Omar Poveda (5-7, 3.48 ERA) is scheduled to start against righty Josh Stinson (6-5, 4.10).
