Atlanta Braves

5 things to know about the Braves on Friday

Sept 29, 2017

The beginning of the Braves' final series was underwhelming. Julio Teheran and company were pounded 7-1 by the Marlins.

The latest updates, as the Braves’ season enters its last three games.

1. Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton homered twice on Thursday. He sits at 59 homers, just two behind Roger Maris' 61, still considered the single-season record by many. Barry Bonds holds the official record with 73 bombs.

2. R.A. Dickey has passed on starting Sunday. Max Fried will take his place. Have we seen the last of one of baseball's best knuckleballers?

3. Nick Markakis returned yesterday after a day absence for "personal reasons."

4. Teheran finished the season with a 4.49 ERA, his worst posting in five full major-league seasons. The Braves have listened on trade offers for Teheran in the past, and this winter isn't expected to be much different.

5. The loss ensures the Braves will finish behind the Marlins in the NL East standings. Atlanta is two games ahead of the Mets for third place. If the Braves finish third, it'd be their best standing since doing the same in 2014.
