Then and Now: Braves win streaks

The current Braves win streak is approaching the Atlanta record of 15 straight wins set in 2000. Current Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez, a protege of former Braves manager Bobby Cox, has a 71-45 record as of Aug. 10. Bobby Cox managed the Braves to a 95-67 record in 2000, winning the National League East, but, for the first time since 1991, did not go to the National League Championship Series after being swept by the Cardinals 3-0 in the Division Series.

Future Hall of Fame pitchers Greg Maddux (right) and Tom Glavine anchored a staff that did not include fellow ace John Smoltz due to injury. Glavine had a 21-9 record with a 3.40 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 241 innings. Maddux went 19-9 with a 3.00 ERA and 1.07 WHIP over 249 innings.

Lefty Mike Minor is 11-5 with a 2.76 ERA and a WHIP of just 1.04.

Starting pitcher Julio Teheran is being called upon to take on a bigger role after injuries to ace pitchers Tim Hudson and Brandon Beachy. He is 8-5 with a 3.02 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 2013.

John Rocker had 24 saves with a 2.89 ERA. He struck out 77 in 53 innings of work.

Closer Craig Kimbrel has 34 saves with a 1.25 ERA. He's struck out 67 in 43 innings so far in 2013.

Catcher Javier Lopez batted .287 with 24 home runs. He threw out 25 percent of base runners.

Catcher Brian McCann in batting .281 with 16 homers. He has thrown out about 30 percent of base runners.

First baseman Andres Galarraga batted .302 with 28 home runs. His fielding percentage was .988.

First baseman Freddie Freeman is batting .311 and has 13 home runs. His fielding percentage is .991.

Quilvio Veras batted .309 and stole 25 bases in 2000 for the Braves. In the field he had a .984 fielding percentage.

Dan Uggla is batting .192 with 21 home runs in 2013. His fielding percentage is .979.

Future Hall of Fame third baseman Chipper Jones batted .311 with 36 home runs in 2000. His fielding percentage was .941.

Third baseman Chris Johnson is batting .342 with 7 homers. His fielding percentage is .959.

Speedy shortstop Rafael Furcal stole 40 bases while batting .295. His fielding percentage was .958.

Shortstop Andrelton Simmons in batting .235 and has 11 home runs in 2013. The slick infielder has a fielding percentage of .985.

The 2000 Braves outfield includes Reggie Sanders (LF), Andruw Jones (CF) and Brian Jordan (RF). Sanders batted .232 with 11 home runs and 21 stolen bases in 103 games. Jones had a great year, batting .303 with 36 home runs and 21 stolen bases in 161 games. Jordan batted .264 with 17 home runs and 10 stolen bases in 133 games.

The 2013 Braves outfield is comprised of brothers Justin Upton (LF) and B.J. Upton (CF) along with Jason Heyward (RF). Justin Upton is batting .265 with 20 home runs. B.J. Upton is batting .183 with 8 home runs. Heyward is batting .235 with 10 home runs.
