Dansby Swanson had two hits Thursday night for low Single-A Rome in the first and possibly only game of the Braves shortstop’s injury-rehab assignment.

Swanson had two singles in four plate appearances in a 1-0 win against Asheville at Rome, his first game action since leaving a May 2 game at New York with inflammation in his left wrist. Rome was chosen for the rehab assignment because Triple-A Gwinnett was on the road this week.

He said Wednesday that he hoped the rehab assignment could be a one-game stint and he might return to the Braves lineup Friday for a series opener against the Marlins, but Swanson also noted that the team and he agreed to wait and see how his timing was and how he responded to playing and hitting at game speed.

Regardless, it’s likely he wouldn’t play more than two games at Rome barring any health setbacks.

“He’s going to play tonight, then we’ll re-evaluate after that, see where he’s at,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said Thursday afternoon. Asked if Swanson could play for the Braves on Friday, he said, “I guess there’s a chance. I don’t know how probable that might be, but there’s a chance.”
