The Braves sent a clear message to the National League on Wednesday: They believe they can win the pennant. And their front office acted aggressively to give them their best chance.

As the trade deadline came to pass, the Braves acquired relievers Shane Greene, Chris Martin and Mark Melancon, turning their clear weakness into a potential strength.

In another reported deal, the Braves acquired catcher John Ryan Murphy from the Diamondbacks, according to The Athletic.

Greene was the most significant addition. The Tigers’ closer, controllable through 2020, has recorded 22 saves in 25 opportunities.
