NEW YORK – Chase d’Arnaud was claimed on waivers by the Boston Red Sox on Thursday, two days after the journeyman utility player was designated for assignment by the Braves.

He was designated Tuesday when the Braves purchased the contract of outfielder Lane Adams from Triple-A Gwinnett, in an attempt to add some power to an anemic bench. If he hadn’t been claimed on waivers, the Braves hoped he would remain in their organization and go to Gwinnett.

D’Arnaud, 30, started only one game this season and was 3-for-8 with no extra-base hits. A year ago, the infielder-outfielder arrived from Triple-A Gwinnett and hit .245 with 17 extra-base hits (one homer) and a .652 OPS in 84 games (262 plate appearances) in his first season with the Braves.
