Possible Braves trade targets

The Braves are looking to deal for a relief pitcher before the July 31 trade deadline. Here are some of the players that have been linked to a possible deal to Atlanta.

The trade deadline is July 31 and the Braves, who lead the NL in bullpen ERA, are reportedly in the market for a relief pitcher. The rumor mill is full likely trade targets for Atlanta and they include: New York Yankees reliever Joba Chamberlain, who was 25 strikeouts and a 5.40 ERA in 23-1/3 innings this season.

Chicago White Sox's Jesse Crain has an ailing right shoulder, but the 32-year-old has a 0.74 ERA and 46 strikeouts over 36-2/3 innings.

Minnesota's Glen Perkins has pitched 70-1/3 innings this season, with a 2.56 ERA and 78 strikeouts. Perkins is in the first year of a three-year, $10.3 million contract that contains a $4.5 million club option.

Astros reliever Wesley Wright has pitched in 32-2/3 innings with a 4.42 ERA and 30 strikeouts. The 28-year-old makes $1.025 million this season and is a free agent in 2016.

Cubs reliever James Russell has pitched in 35-2/3 innings this season and has a 2.78 ERA and 29 strikeouts. Russell, 27, will make $1.075 million this year, and is arbitration eligible through 2015.

Brewers reliever Mike Gonzalez already has one stint with the Braves, pitching in 125 innings with 26 saves over three seasons. Gonzalez, 45, has pitched in 33 innings this season with a 3.0 ERA and 40 strikeouts.

The Braves are rumored to be one of the teams interested in Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez, a 26-year-old righthander from Cuba. Gonzalez is a free agent and has been cleared to sign with a baseball team next week.
