Players linked to Biogenesis scandal

Up to 12 major league baseball players have reportedly accepted suspensions for their connection to Biogenesis, a defunct anti-aging clinic in Florida.

2011 MVP Ryan Braun of the Milwaukee Brewers was suspended for the remainder of the 2013 baseball season which was meted out for "violations of the Basic Agreement and its Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program," according to a statement released by MLB. Braun will serve a 50-game suspension in connection to the Biogenesis, a closed anti-aging clinic in Florida linked with the distribution of performance-enhancing drugs. The additional 15 games stem from Braun's actions during the grievance that overturned his positive test from October 2011.

New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, 38, is the active leader in career home runs, with 647. He has missed all of the 2013 season after undergoing hip surgery in the offseason to repair a torn labrum. Reports state baseball will suspend Rodriguez through the 2014 season. He will reportedly appeal the decision.

Phillies pitcher Antonia Bastardo, 27, is one of the top left-handed relief pitchers in the National League and has a 2.32 ERA through 42-2/3 innings this season. Bastardo is among the players who have accepted 50-game penalties from Major League Baseball.

Cesar Puello, 21, a top Mets outfield prospect. He is among the players who have accepted 50-game penalties from Major League Baseball.

Jordan Norberto, 26, a lefty reliever with the Oakland A's. Norberto was signed as an amateur free agent by the Diamondbacks in 2004, and made his major-league debut with Arizona early in the 2010 season after making the roster as a left-handed reliever. Norberto, a free agent, is among the players who have accepted 50-game penalties from Major League Baseball.

San Diego Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera, 26, the reigning National League stolen-base champion. Cabrera is among the players who have accepted 50-game penalties from Major League Baseball.

Fautino De Los Santos, 27, made six major league appearances for the A's last season before being traded to Milwaukee. He was released and claimed off waivers by the Padres. He is among the players who have accepted 50-game penalties from Major League Baseball.

Fernando Martinez, 24, hit .206 with 9 homers and 29 RBIs this season for the Astros. He was traded to the New York Yankees before the trade deadline. Martinez is among the players who have accepted 50-game penalties from Major League Baseball.

Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz is in the midst of his best season since 2010, hitting .274 with 25 homers and 73 RBI. Cruz is among the players who have accepted 50-game penalties from Major League Baseball.

Detroit's All-Star shortstop Jhonny Peralta, 30, is hitting .307 with 10 homers this season. Peralta is among the players who have accepted 50-game penalties from Major League Baseball.

New York Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli, 26, had an .877 OPS in 61 plate appearances, before suffering a hand injury. He is among the players who have accepted 50-game penalties from Major League Baseball.

Catcher Jesus Montero struggled in 29 games with the Mariners, batting .208 batting with 3 homers this seaosn. He now plays for Seattle's Triple-A team, where he has switched to first base since injuring his knee. Montero is among the players who have accepted 50-game penalties from Major League Baseball.

Mets infielder Jordany Valdespin, 25, was recently demoted to the Mets' Triple-A affiliate, Las Vegas, where he is serving a three-game suspension for inciting a benches-clearing brawl after showboating a home run. Valdespin failed to crack a .200 batting average with the Mets this year. He is among the players who have accepted 50-game penalties from Major League Baseball.

Houston Astros pitcher Sergio Escalona, 29, spent parts of two seasons in the major leagues. He is currently pitching at Double-A Corpus Christi after undergoing Tommy John surgery during spring training in 2012. Escalona is among the players who have accepted 50-game penalties from Major League Baseball.

Blue Jays outfielder Melky Cabrera, 28, was suspended for 50 games while hitting .346 before the All-Star break. This season he is hitting .280. Cabrera does not face further discipline in connection with Biogenesis case.

Oakland A's starter Bartolo Colon, 39, is 10-9 with 91 strikeouts in 24 starts this season. Colon served a 50-game suspension last season and does not face further discipline in connection with Biogenesis case.

San Diego Padres catcher Yasmani Grandal, 23, was suspended 50 games last season for testing positive for use of a banned substance. He went on the DL this season with a knee sprain. Grandal does not face further discipline in connection with Biogenesis case.
