How the winning run scored: Charlotte's Angel Sanchez scored on a ground out in the top of the third inning Thursday night to cap a three-run inning and give the Knights a 4-2 lead over Gwinnett. The first two runs of the inning scored on bases-loaded walks.
At the plate: The Knights outhit the G-Braves 11-6. Luis Nunez led Gwinnett with two hits and had the team's only extra-base hit, a triple when he led off the sixth. Charlotte's Steve Tolleson was 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
On the mound: Gwinnett starter Omar Poveda gave up four hits and walked four in four innings, but he allowed only one run. Poveda also struck out five.
Up next for Gwinnett: The G-Braves (37-51) begin a series against the Durham Bulls at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville. Gwinnett's scheduled starter is right-hander Kameron Loe (2-2, 3.49 ERA) against left-hander Mike Montgomery (4-2, 3.60).
