How the winning run scored: Chris Marrero of the Syracuse Chiefs scored the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly by Mike Costanzo in the second inning. The Chiefs held on and shut out the visiting Gwinnett Braves on Thursday night.

At the plate: Gwinnett's offense struggled. The G-Braves managed only four hits, none for extra bases. Paul Janish had two of the hits. Micah Owings of Syracuse, who is from Gainesville and played two seasons for Georgia Tech, was 3-for-4. He had two doubles, and RBI and a run scored.

On the mound: G-Braves starter Sean Gilmartin (3-4) struck out six in six innings, but he gave up four runs on seven hits, allowing two doubles, a triple and a homer.

Up next for Gwinnett: The G-Braves (24-31) continue their trip and begin a four-game series at Lehigh Valley. The teams meet at 7:05 p.m. Friday. Gwinnett right-hander Tim Corcoran (3-3, 3.19 ERA) is scheduled to start against righty Zach Miner (2-3, 5.40).
