Longtime MLB writer Peter Gammons told the Mully and Hanley radio show in Chicago that Bryce Harper, whose contract with the Nationals expires in 2018, wants to play for the Chicago Cubs. But it's probably not going to happen.

“Somehow I don’t think it’s going to be affordable to have Bryce Harper and Kris Bryant on the same team,” Gammons explained. “It’s a great idea, I’d love to see it because I respect them both so much, personally and professionally, but I don’t think it’s ever going to happen.”

Harper recently agreed to a one-year, $21.65 million contract extension to play in Washington through 2018.

Bryant, the reigning league MVP, is signed with the Cubs through 2021.
