Brian Snitker said he’s pleased with rehabs for Austin Riley, Darren O’Day

Michael Austin Riley was born April 2, 1997 in Memphis, Tenn. The Braves drafted Riley in the first round in 2015 (41st overall) out of DeSoto Central HS in Southaven, Miss. Riley hit 19 home runs in 408 at-bats in 2018, spending most of the season at Double-A or Triple-A. Riley hit 20 homers in 484 at-bats in 2017 at high Single-A and Double-A. Braves manager Brian Snitker said before Tuesday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays that he is happy with the ongoing rehabilitation of outfielder Austin Riley and reliever Darren O’Day.

Riley went 2-for-5 as the designated hitter with Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday night, but it was the continued ability to make baseball plays that pleased his skipper. Riley injured his right knee in the weight room earlier this month.

“He tagged up from first on a long fly ball, he’s sliding and doing everything baseball related and running the bases, everything you need to see,” Snitker said. “He just needs at-bats and timing now.”

O’Day made his season debut Aug. 23 after missing the entire year with a forearm strain. Snitker said the right-handed pitcher was going to throw Tuesday, make one appearance for Single-A Florida before he was moved up to Triple-A Gwinnett.
