The Braves will continue paying their minor leaguers through July 31, a person familiar with the team’s operations told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Minor leaguers have received $400 weekly stipends through April, May and June since the pandemic ceased play in March.

Minor League Baseball made the long-anticipated announcement Tuesday that there won’t be a 2020 season. Major League Baseball opened “summer camps” Wednesday in preparation for a 60-game season scheduled to begin later this month.

Like many teams, the Braves have taken a month-to-month approach in deciding how they’ll handle minor-league pay. They’re among 10 teams who’ve committed to paying players through July. Seven organizations have committed to paying minor leaguers through what would’ve been their full seasons.

A small handful of prospects are in the Braves’ 60-player pool – meaning they’re available to play in the majors this season – including the top trio of starter Ian Anderson and outfielders Cristian Pache and Drew Waters. Lefty Jared Shuster, the team’s first-round pick this year, also is in the pool.

Baseball America was the first to report the Braves’ plans.
