The Braves will call up pitchers Arodys Vizcaino and David Carpenter from Triple-A Gwinnett, manager Fredi Gonzalez said after the game Sunday.

Nick Masset and Dana Eveland, critical elements to the team’s Sunday loss to the Phillies, were designated for assignment to make room on the roster.

Vizcaino, 24, made his first appearance with Gwinnett on Friday after serving his 80-game suspension for using performance-enhancing drugs. He allowed two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out two in one inning of relief.

Carpenter, 24, is 2-0 with a 0.73 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 37 innings with Gwinnett this year. The Braves signed Carpenter in the offseason after he spent five years in the Angels organization.

Masset picked up the loss in Atlanta’s 10-inning, 4-0 loss to the Phillies. He allowed two hits and a walk to load the bases without getting an out in the 10th. Eveland replaced him and allowed the game-winning run to score on Ryan Howard’s sacrifice fly.

With Sunday’s performance, Masset, whom the Braves signed on May 19, was 2-2 with a 4.68 ERA. Eveland, whom the Braves signed on June 7 and called up on June 11, was 0-1 with a 5.41 ERA.
