How the winning run scored: Gwinnett broke a scoreless tie in the eighth inning Wednesday night when Ernesto Mejia doubled to left with one out. He drove home Alden Carrithers for the only run of the game.

At the plate: The G-Braves produced five hits, and Carrithers had two of them. Jordan Schafer, on a rehab assignment for the Atlanta Braves, had one hit, a double.

On the mound: Gwinnett starter Omar Poveda allowed no runs on five hits, but he lasted only six innings. Four walks contributed to his pitch count reaching 99, and he struck out six. Ryan Buchter (1-0) and Wirfin Obispo combined to pitch three innings of relief, allowing no runs and one walk. Buchter struck out three in his two innings.

Up next for Gwinnett: The G-Braves (50-69) and the Tides (62-57) conclude their series at 7:05 p.m. Thursday. Gwinnett is scheduled to sent right-hander Kameron Loe (4-3, 3.50 ERA) to the mound to face righty Kevin Gausman (0-2, 5.56).
