The Braves on Saturday signed outfielder pick Drew Waters, their second-round draft pick, to a contract that includes a $1.5 million bonus.

Waters, 18, was the No. 41 overall selection out of Etowah High School in Woodstock. During his senior season he hit .510 (53-for-104) with 15 home runs, 13 doubles and four triples. He had committed to play at the University of Georgia before signing with the Braves.

Waters’ signing bonus is slightly below the “slot” value for the 41st pick. The Braves signed first-round pick Kyle Wright, a Vanderbilt pitcher, to a record $7 million bonus.

The Braves now have about $1.38 million remaining of their $9.88 allotment to sign their other picks from the first 10 rounds of the draft (though the Braves can spend about $10 million without penalty).
