B.J. UPTON

On confrontation with Holbrook:

“I’m going back to the dugout. We had our disagreements about the pitch. Obviously I didn’t agree with it. he thought it was a strike. I can live with that. But the shooing away part? No, I’m a grown man. You just don’t do that.”

On what Holbrook said to him at that point or after that:

“He just pretty much said, go back to the dugout and I was going. He kind of gave me the shoo-away, like I was a fly or something, get away from me. I was good with it. I was going back to the dugout, and that’s it.”

On the fact that he was walking away:

“I turned to walk away and I saw him kind of give me the hand gesture, and I went from 0 to 60 pretty fast.”

On if he’s had any problems with Holbrook in the past and if aware of what happened with Braves in playoffs last year:

On if he’s had any problems with Holbrook in the past and if aware of what happened with Braves in playoffs last year:

“Yeah I’m aware of what happened last year but I don’t really remember having a problem with him. All that is in the past. It’s 2013. Like I said we disagreed on something to do with the game but as far as the shooing away part I don’t think anybody would really take that well.”

On Rodriguez:

“He had good stuff. He pitched in and out, we hit some balls hard, just couldn’t find any holes and that’s the way the game goes sometimes.”

TIM HUDSON

On if struggled with pitches up:

“I obviously didn’t make some pitches in some situations. I just wasn’t very good tonight, didn’t make some pitches. They had some pretty good at-bats, they hit some decent pitches but it was just a night where I wasn’t very good from almost the start. It was a battle from the beginning. You’ve got to tip your hat to those guys. They came in with seemed like a pretty good game plan and I didn’t make pitches and they had a guy on the other side of the field on the mound that was pretty good too. It just wasn’t a very good night all the way around.”

On if tough to get a feel for the ball in the conditions:

“It obviously wasn’t ideal conditions but it wasn’t horribly bad out there either. I expected it to be worse but it wasn’t too bad. Just wasn’t very good, man. There really isn’t another excuse. I didn’t make pitches and they hit mistakes and made me pay for them.”

On if thought he might settle in after double play:

“After the third or fourth inning I thought that maybe I could have turned it into a decent outing but that fifth inning rolled around and I walked the leadoff guy. It was kind of the beginning of some crap. But just didn’t make very good pitches to walk McCutchen to load the bases. I think Jones hit the base hit to left. They handled some decent pitches whenever I made them. I know that was a sinker away and he hit it to left field and earlier in the game, Snider, I felt like a made a pretty good pitch inside to him and he pulled it down the line. My good pitches were few and far between and when I did make them, they seemed to still hit them. Just tried to keep them off-balance throughout the game and it worked for a little while. For the most part, you’ve got to tip your hat to them they were pretty good tonight. They had a guy on the mound that was giving us fits so I had to be pretty damn good tonight to win and I wasn’t.”

On if even thought about 200 wins:

“I obviously think about it because it’s there. I don’t change anything I do just because of that. At some point this year I’ll get it (laughs).”

JASON HEYWARD

On Rodriguez:

“I feel like it’s one of those guys we don’t get to see enough times during the year. We get him either once or twice and that’s about it. Not to take anything away from time. Obviously he threw well. He was really efficient. Only gave up one hit. A lot of things went in their favor, they swung the bats well against Huddy but cold night for a sinkerballer out there, you needed to be ducking and dipping but tonight wasn’t one of the easy nights for that.”

On if thinking about it being Holbrook tossing Upton:

“It’s still fresh in your mind because it’s a playoff game for us when it comes to that. Other than that, we’re out there working. We’ve got to put that behind us. We’re playing the game. B.J. has got a great view of what’s going on in center field as far as what we’re throwing and getting called strikes and what they’re throwing and getting called strikes. Other than that, I don’t think there’s too much to it.”

FREDI GONZALEZ

On Hudson:

“I think some of the balls were not sinking like they normally would. When he’s getting flyballs, the ball is not sinking. Some of the balls were left over the plate a little bit. But we didn’t do anything offensively to help him out or to get back in the game. Wandy was pretty good and so that’s pretty much the game there.”

On a couple balls to outfield early but then a groove for Wandy:

“I’ve never seen him not pitch well. It seems like when he was with Houston and he played us, he always gave us some fits. He’s a guy that’s a left-hander, cranks up 91, 92 mph, has a good curveball, knows how to pitch and you never get a good pass at him.”

On if B.J. took exception to Holbrook shooing at him:

“I think that was the straw. I could sympathize with B.J. on that. I think if matters might have been handled differently, B.J. stays in the game because I didn’t think the pitch was that bad of a pitch but B.J. comes back and asks or says something, and the way he got waved off probably ticked him off and didn’t give me a chance to get out there and try to keep him in the game. That’s one of those things boys will be boys.”
