The Braves have locked up the National League East. Their next potential milestone: 100 victories.
Sitting at 96 wins after Sunday’s loss to San Francisco, the Braves need to go 4-1 across their final five games to reach the century plateau. The Braves play two in Kansas City and three in New York.
“I’ve thought about it a lot,” manager Brian Snitker said. “I think that’d be quite an accomplishment. We’ve got what, five games to do it? So hopefully we can.”
If the Braves reach 100 wins, it’d be the ninth time in franchise history and first since 2003. The 2003 team won 101 games – also charged by a power-laden offense – after also winning 101 games the year prior.
The Braves won 100-plus games four times in the 1990s (1994, 1997-99). Their other two 100-win campaigns came in 1892 (102-48) and 1898 (102-47).
Alongside the pursuit of 100, the Braves have an outside shot at the NL’s No. 1 seed. They sit four games behind the Dodgers, pending their result against the Rockies on Sunday afternoon.
