How the winning run scored: Blake DeWitt scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the ninth inning Saturday, a run that gave Gwinnett a 5-1 lead over Charlotte. The G-Braves (2-0) withstood the Knights' attempted rally and held on for the victory in the first game of a doubleheader.

At the plate: Ernesto Mejia hit a three-run home run to key the G-Braves' four-run first inning. Mejia (2-for-3) finished with four RBIs and scored two runs. Joey Terdoslavich also drove in a run. Bryan Anderson and Steve Tolleson each had two hits for the Knights (0-2).

On the mound: G-Braves starter David Hale pitched five innings, allowing two runs on five hits. He struck out five and walked one. Gwinnett's Wirfin Obispo struggled out of the bullpen. He allowed two runs in two-thirds of an inning. Obispo did not allow a hit, but he walked four.

Up next for Gwinnett: The teams conclude their four-game series at 2:05 p.m. Sunday. Right-hander Tim Corcoran of Gwinnett will face righty Simon Castro of Charlotte.
