The Braves will move the starting time of their weeknight home games to 7:30 p.m. next season at SunTrust Park.

The Braves said the new start time — pushed back from 7:10 for games on Monday through Thursday nights at Turner Field this season — is intended to help alleviate evening rush-hour traffic issues.

“We recognize that traffic in the Atlanta area is an issue and certainly has been a key frustration at Turner Field before and after ballgames,” Mike Plant, Braves president of development, said in a statement. “But the combination of tremendous infrastructure improvements, 360-degree access to the ballpark, pre- and post-game activities at (mixed-use development) The Battery Atlanta, and our new start time will make travel to and from SunTrust Park a better experience for our fans.”

SunTrust Park, the 41,500-seat stadium under construction near Cumberland Mall in Cobb County, is slated to open at the start of next season.

The Braves didn’t announce any changes on game times at the new stadium for weekend series. At Turner Field, Friday games begin at 7:35 p.m. and Saturday night games at 7:10.
