The Braves put infielder Gordon Beckham on the 15-day disabled list for a strained left hamstring and recalled pitcher Ryan Weber from Triple-A Gwinnett to provide an extra arm in the bullpen.

They had hoped to avoid the DL stint with Beckham, who was injured in Saturday’s win against the Marlins. But after rest and rehab Sunday, he hadn’t improved enough by Monday’s off day for the Braves to continue going short-handed in hopes of a speedy recovery from the versatile veteran infielder.

Beckham had what proved to be a game-winning RBI Saturday on a fourth-inning single, then pulled up while running out a ground out in the sixth inning. He strained the same hamstring during spring training and initially hoped the pain he felt Saturday was merely the breaking up of scar tissue from the previous injury.

His strong performance last week earned Beckham a majority of playing time recently at second base. He made his third consecutive start Saturday and was 6-for-17 on the trip, including two hits and two RBIs in Friday’s 6- 3 win.
