As expected, the Braves activated relief pitcher Arodys Vizcaino from the 10-day disabled list Wednesday morning. Outfielder Lane Adams was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding move.

Vizcaino, 26, is a much-needed addition to the Braves’ bullpen. He was placed on the DL on July 5 with a strained right index finger.

In his rehab appearance in Gwinnett on Monday, Vizcaino threw 19 pitches, 12 for strikes, in one inning. His fastball hit 98 mph. Several scouts were in attendance.

In 37 games, Vizcaino owns a team-best 2.38 ERA. He earned a 1.44 ERA over his past 25 innings, working primarily in a setup role.

Adams was used in a pinch-hitter role while in Atlanta. He hit a bases-loaded double in Saturday’s game that helped the Braves defeat the Diamondbacks 8-5.

The 27-year-old was with the Braves from April 25-May 8, and then June 7-July 19. He’s 6-for-25 (.240) in pinch-hit opportunities. Adams hit his only career home run pinch-hitting against the Giants on June 22.
