The Braves acquired catcher Carlos Perez from the Angels for infielder Ryan Schimpf, the team announced after Saturday night’s game.

Tyler Flowers and Kurt Suzuki, the team’s regular catchers, are both slowed by injury. Flowers is on the 10-day disabled list with a left oblique strain, while Suzuki hopes to return by Tuesday after a pitch hit his hand during Friday night’s game.

Perez, 27, appeared in 11 games for the Angels last season after playing in 86 and 87 in 2015 and 2016, respectively. He’s slashed .224/.267/.332 in 548 career at-bats.

Spending most of 2017 in Triple-A, Perez hit .352 with five home runs and 40 RBIs for the Salt Lake City Bees.

Chris Stewart started Saturday’s game at catcher, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Starter Brandon McCarthy also credited Stewart for guiding him through a rocky start.

His backup was utilityman Charlie Culberson, who serves as the emergency catcher.

Schimpf was a mid-March edition from the Rays. He went 0-for-30 with 19 strikeouts in spring training, ending any bid at making the Braves’ roster.
