Some of major league baseball's most recognizable mascots.

Loved by young (and old) baseball fans, mascots are a big part of the game. Here are some major league team's major mascot talent. Homer the Brave has been a part of baseball since 1988.

Wally the Green Monster rallies fans in Boston.

The anthropomorphic purple triceratops Dinger is the official mascot of the Colorado Rockies.

The Pirate Parrot is the mascot of the Pittsburgh Pirates, debuting in 1979.

Lou Seal has served as mascot of the San Francisco Giants since 1996.

Rosie Red (right) is the female mascot of the Cincinnati Reds. She was introduced in August 2008 as the new companion of Mr. Redlegs.

The Milwaukee sausages aren't the Brewers' official mascots. But they've become synonymous with the team. The Sausage Race is a race of sausage mascots held before the bottom of the sixth inning at every home game.

Billy The Marlin is the official mascot of the Florida Marlins.

Fredbird was introduced as the mascot of the St. Louis Cardinals in 1979.

The Phillie Phanatic is a fat furry green creature with a cylindrical beak containing a tongue that sticks out. He made his debut in 1978.

Then there's the granddaddy of them all. The San Diego Chicken, which started independently making appearances at San Diego Padres games in 1977.
