PHOENIX — B.J. Upton went 0-for-5 in his return to the Braves lineup Saturday, two days after being with his fiancée, Stefanie, for the birth of their second child in Tampa.

Myla Upton weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces, B.J. Upton said, and she and her mother were doing well when he left to fly West and rejoin the Braves. He said when the couple’s son Riley was born four years ago, Upton was with the Rays on a West Coast trip and flew back to Tampa for the birth, then back across the country to rejoin the team.

The Braves were off Thursday and Upton was scratched from the lineup Friday after he had difficulties with his commercial flight to Phoenix and didn’t make it to Chase Field until about 40 minutes before the first pitch in the series opener.

Upton had been 14-for-51 (.275) with three doubles and two homers in his past 13 games before going hitless Saturday.
