The Braves signed veteran pitcher Derek Lowe, 35, in 2009 to a four-year, $60 million contract. Lowe was with the Dodgers from 2005-2008.

Lowe spent most of his career with the Boston Red Sox (1997, 1998-2004) and was part of the 2004 team that won the squad's first World Series since 1918, breaking the 80-plus year "curse" plaguing the team.

Lowe brings a spirited approach to pitching. This 2002 bench-clearing brawl between the Orioles and Lowe's former team, the Red Sox, started when Lowe hit the O's Gary Matthews in retaliation for an earlier BoSox player being hit by a pitch.

Red Sox fans had reason to celebrate along with Lowe when he pitched Boston to a 10-0 win -- a no-hitter --against the Devil Rays at Boston's Fenway Park in April 2002.

Lowe isn't afraid to get down and dirty off the mound, here mixing it up with the Phillies' Shane Victorino at first base during Game 1 of the 2008 National League championship series. The Dodgers lost to Philly, the eventual World Series champs.

Despite making the NL Championship series, 2008 was something of an uneven year for Lowe. After going 16-8 in 2007, he was 14-11 overall with a 3.24 ERA in 211 innings, but posted an impressive 6-1 record with a 1.27 ERA in his last 10 starts.

Lowe was traded on Oct. 31, 2011, to the Indians. In three seasons in Atlanta, Lowe went 40-39 with a 4.57 ERA in 101 starts.
