Through two spring outings, reliever Anyelo Gomez is warranting the Braves’ attention.

Gomez pitched a perfect inning Friday against the Mets. He allowed one hit and added a strikeout in Monday’s appearance against the Nationals, topping out at 98 mph.

“I’ve been impressed,” manager Brian Snitker said. “I really like that kid. He’s got a good arm.”

A Rule 5 pick from the Yankees, Gomez is among several candidates to comprise the Braves bullpen. The 24-year-old had a 1.92 ERA and 87 strikeouts across four minor-league levels last season.

Gomez must be kept on the major league roster all season or be offered back to the Yankees for $25,000, as a Rule 5 stipulation.

Donald Trump's administration deployed the military to Washington, D.C., in the name of fighting crime, and in an Aug. 11 news conference he mentioned the possibility of military being sent to other large American cities, all of which are led by Black, Democratic mayors. And while Atlanta wasn't included in Trump's list, the city fits that profile under Mayor Andre Dickens. (Photo Illustration: Philip Robibero / AJC | Source: Getty)
