Atlanta United set a U.S. Open Cup championship game attendance record on Tuesday when 35,709 tickets were sold and distributed for Tuesday’s finale against Minnesota at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The previous attendance record for a U.S. Open Cup final was 35,615, set in 2011 between Seattle and Chicago at CenturyLink Field.

Atlanta United holds the record for largest attendance in the history of the tournament because of the 41,012 tickets sold and distributed for last year’s quarterfinal game against Chicago at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Atlanta United leads MLS in attendance for the third consecutive season with an average of 52,611. It holds league attendance records for MLS Cup (73,019), which was also the most tickets sold and distributed any MLS game in its history.

The team has the nine most-attended games in MLS history.
