Atlanta United will host Portland in the MLS Cup on Dec. 8 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Atlanta United advanced by defeating the Red Bulls 3-1 in a two-game series. The Five Stripes won 3-0 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and lost 1-0 on Thursday in Harrison, N.J.

Portland advanced by defeating Sporting KC 3-2 in a two-game series. The teams tied 0-0 at Portland. The Timbers won 3-2 at Children’s Mercy Park on Thursday.

Atlanta United and Portland have faced each other twice in the past two years. They drew 1-1 at Providence Park in the 2017 season. They drew 1-1 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium this season.

Atlanta United finished with 69 points this season, tied for second-most in league history. They were the second seed in the East.

The Timbers finished with 54 points. They were the fifth seed in the West.

The Timbers won the MLS Cup in 2015 by defeating Columbus at Mapfre Stadium.
