In his third season in the NBA, Trae Young broke the Hawks record for fewest games needed to reach the 4,000-point mark. He did so in 167 games.

Young entered Wednesday’s game vs. the Celtics 25 points shy of 4,000 for his career. Then, he exploded for 40 points in the win, with 16 points in the fourth quarter alone, helping the Hawks close out a narrow victory in Boston.

Young is averaging 26.5 points and 9.3 assists per game this season.

Bob Pettit reached the 4,000-point milestone in 171 games, Pete Maravich did so in 180 and Dominique Wilkins in 194. As far as age, Young (22 years, 151 days) is the third-youngest player to reach the milestone, behind Josh Smith (22 years, 114 days) and John Drew (22 years, 120 days).
