Despite turning a triple play and scoring four runs in the eighth and ninth to force extra innings, the Gwinnett Stripers fell to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 8-5 in 11 innings in Triple-A baseball at Coolray Field on Saturday night in Lawrenceville.

Johan Camargo, Jason Kipnis and Travis Snider combined to turn the 5-4-3 triple play in the eighth inning to get Gwinnett out of a jam. The play started with a bouncing grounder to Camargo, who tagged a baserunner and threw to second, where Kipnis caught the ball and fired to Snider at first. The triple play was Gwinnett’s first since May 28, 2019 at Toledo.

The Stripers’ Cristian Pache hit a two-run double to tie the game 5-5 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, capping a 3-for-6, two-RBI effort for the young outfielder.

Gwinnett is 15-14.
