Game 5 of the World Series on Sunday night drew the highest rating for an MLB telecast in the Atlanta TV market in 22 years.

The game posted a 31.4 rating here, meaning 31.4% of all TV-equipped households in the market watched on average, according to data provided by Fox Sports, which is televising the series.

The network said that was the best rating for an MLB telecast in Atlanta since 1999, the last time before this year that the Braves reached the World Series. The fourth and final game of the 1999 World Series, in which the Yankees swept the Braves, posted a 34.7 rating in Atlanta.

Sunday’s 31.4 rating translated to a local TV audience of about 830,000 households for the Braves’ 9-5 loss to the Houston Astros.

By comparison, Braves regular-season telecasts this year averaged a 2.72 rating here, about 72,000 households, less than one-eleventh of Sunday’s viewership.

Game 5 also drew a 56 share in the Atlanta TV market, meaning 56% of the local households watching anything on TV at the time were watching the game.

The ratings and shares in Atlanta for the first four World Series games were: 26.0 rating and 49 share for Game 1; 23.3 rating and 42 share for Game 2; 26.3 rating and 48 share for Game 3; 26.0 rating and 49 share for Game 4.
