B.E.S.T. Academy quarterback Ventravious Rashada accounted for four touchdowns in leading the Eagles over Maynard Jackson 37-18 in a Region 4-AAA matchup Friday night at Grady Stadium.
The senior passed for three scores on homecoming night, including two to Rontavious Belcher, and ran for another on the Eagles’ first drive. Junior speedster Deshawn Waller rushed for 231 yards on 16 carries and also caught a touchdown pass from Rashada just before halftime.
B.E.S.T. Academy (4-2 overall, 2-1 in Region 4-AAA) took an early lead behind a five-play, 68-yard drive that ended with Rashada’s 1-yard sneak. On the third play from scrimmage he connected with Atravious Delaney on a 35-yard pass that moved the ball inside the Jackson 5-yard line, where he scored two plays later.
The Jaguars fumbled the ensuing kickoff return, and B.E.S.T. Academy took advantage to go ahead 13-0 when Rashada hit Belcher for a 16-yard score. The Eagles extended the lead to 19-0 on a 58-yard run by Waller, where he reversed field at the 50 and went in untouched.
Jackson (3-3 overall, 1-2 in Region 4-AAA) closed the gap to 19-6 on a 92-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Keenan Moore to Orenzo Smith. Smith outjumped an Eagles defender and then outran two others to the end zone.
A 51-yard run by Waller set up Belcher’s second touchdown, a 3-yard run to put the Eagles ahead 25-6. Jackson responded with a nine-play, 74-yard touchdown drive that ended with a 9-yard touchdown pass from Moore to Raheim Gusta.
Rashada and Waller connected for an 18-yard score to put B.E.S.T. Academy ahead 31-12 with one second to play before halftime. Rashada’s third touchdown pass, a 42-yard connection with Belcher, came with 4:12 to go in the third quarter.
Belcher forced a second-quarter fumble to stop a Jaguars drive at the 15 and recovered a second fumble in the third quarter. Moore tossed a third touchdown to Quintavious Monday with 1:46 left to play and finished with 226 yards passing.
