Two Georgia Tech baseball players, junior catcher Vahn Lackey and junior second baseman Jarren Advincula, have been named to the midseason watch list for the Golden Spikes Award, USA Baseball announced Thursday.

The award is given to the top amateur player in the country. There are 45 players on the list.

Lackey, who was also named to the Buster Posey National College Catcher of the Year midseason watch list, leads the Yellow Jackets in batting average (.416), home runs (11), RBIs (38), slugging (.851), on-base percentage (.532) and stolen bases (seven).

He leads a loaded Tech offense that has scored 320 runs in 28 games, good for both a program and BBCOR (a standard for bats that began in 2011) record.

Advincula leads the ACC in base hits (47), is slashing .405/.481/.552 and has boosted the Jackets defensively with a 1.000 fielding percentage (30 putouts and 54 assists without an error).

Semifinalists for the Golden Spikes Award will be named May 14, finalists June 10 and the winner June 29.
