The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Doug Roberson predicts which teams from the MLS Eastern and Western Conferences will make the playoffs:

EAST

1. Columbus: Strong up the spine and only need to worry about MLS.

2. Atlanta United: A renovated roster that’s deeper than it looks.

3. NYCFC: Its homefield advantage is always strong.

4. Toronto: Try as I might every year to write them off, they bounce back.

5. D.C. United: Who will score the goals?

6. New England: Better than last year, but depth still an issue.

7. Philadelphia: Can the midfield hold up?

WEST

1. Seattle: The champs are the champs.

2. LAFC: All the breaks that went its way last year won’t happen this year.

3. Portland: This Timbers team will be sneaky good.

4. Sporting KC: Love the moves this team made in the offseason.

5. Minnesota: Defense will carry this team.

6. Dallas: Can young talent carry this squad?

7. L.A. Galaxy: I almost left them out all together because the defense should still stink.
