What is the Triple Crown

A few things before you bet

• No horse has won from the No. 1 post in nearly 30 years, and it’s been a decade longer since a start from the No. 2 stall has produced a winner at the Kentucky Derby.

• No horse has won the derby starting from the No. 17 stall.

• The No. 5 and No. 10 stalls have produced the most winners (9 each).

• Since 1908, the favorite has won nearly a third of the time.

Three things to know

• Derby underdog Patch has one eye. The  3-year-old horse lost his left eye about one year ago.

• Gary Stevens, who will be riding Royal Mo, will be the oldest jockey to line up at this year’s Kentucky Derby. He is 52.

• Don't be caught with a hat, 90 percent of women who attend the Kentucky Derby wear one, according to WalletHub.
