2010 Georgia ING Marathon & Half Marathon

The combined start of the ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon takes off down Marietta Street Sunday, March 21, 2010. An estimated 16,000 runners participated in the annual race held in downtown Atlanta.

Be prepared: Orlando Ulloa of Atlanta stretches out in the lobby of the CNN Center before the race.

Stay warm: Marietta's Valerie Breslow wraps herself in a heat blanket while waiting for the race to start. The early morning weather was cool and rainy.

It was still dark as runners made their way across the Jackson Street bridge over Freedom Parkway.

You can never stretch enough, can you? Naaahhh...The CNN sign was a popular stretching place for competitors.

Tom Petty got it right: The waiting really is the hardest part. Runners huddle up patiently before heading to their starting corrals.

The wheelchair racers take off from the starting line, with the marathon runners behind them starting five minutes later.

Ready... steady... With the Marathon start a few moments away, runners get themselves ready at the ING Marathon start line.

The runners started from Centennial Park at 7 a.m. and made their way through Five Points, Midtown, Little Five Points, Virginia Highlands, Druid Hills, Piedmont Park and Georgia Tech, finishing back at Centennial Park.

The downtown Atlanta skyline offered an impressive backdrop for the early morning race, despite the less-than-ideal weather conditions.

Just DID It: Runners in the half-marathon were all smiles as they crossed the finish line.

Rewards for a well-run race: Atlantans Chris and Sabrina Fitze (left to right) keep warm with heat blankets after the race.
