Photos: Highest paid Georgia employees

Coaches dominated the list of highest paid state employees for the 2022 budget year. University of Georgia head football coach Kirby Smart, who recently led the Bulldogs to their second-straight championship, led the pack earning nearly $8 million.

James D. St. Louis, chief of pediatric and congenital heart surgery at Augusta University, is the highest earning non-coach at $1.6 million.

Richard Lee, chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Augusta University, made $1.2 million.

Charles Cary, chief investment officer, Teacher Retirement System, made $1.1 million. A pair of co-chief investment officers at the TRS -- Michael Majure and Thomas Horkan (both not pictured), each made about $900,000.

Local school district leaders have some of the highest paying jobs in Georgia. But the job doesn't come with much stability. The four highest paid superintendents are no longer at their posts.
