FLOVILLA – Supporters filed into GOP lieutenant governor candidate Burt Jones’ election night party at the Idlewide Event Center in Flovilla for what many said would be an early night.

”This thing will be over at 8:30 or 9:00,” state Sen. Brandon Beach hypothesized when he kicked things off around 7 p.m. “We couldn’t have picked a finer person to be a lieutenant governor for the state of Georgia. … Let’s have fun tonight, let’s have a victory and let’s keep this state red and have a big red wave tonight.”

Jones stepped out to shake hands and greet the crowd around 8 p.m., an hour after polls closed, but didn’t make any formal remarks before leaving the ballroom.

The crowd was a mix of Republican state senators, lobbyists and many who say they’ve known Jones, a state senator and Butts County native, for decades.

Jones is one of few statewide candidate who chose to hold his election night party outside of the metro Atlanta area, and some lobbyists could be overheard making plans to head to other Republican events in the city.
